About the role

Are you an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and inspiring teacher? Then come and join our team as a WiseOceans Academy Educator.

WiseOceans Academy has been delivering marine education sessions for over a decade and has taught over 10,000 students from 37 countries! We offer virtual and in-person classes to people of all ages, of all abilities and from all over the world. WiseOceans Academy is growing quickly and along with our classes we offer all sorts of marine biology resources from YouTube videos to craft tutorials.

We’re looking for someone creative and enthusiastic about education to join our team and help us continue to engage and inspire budding marine biologists across the globe.

Due to the nature of this position, you must be reliable and able to fully commit to teaching between the hours of 4pm and 8pm (UK time) from Monday – Thursday every week.

The Academy Educator shall be responsible for the coordination and delivery of WiseOceans Academy sessions.

The key elements include, but are not limited to:

  • Delivery of virtual WiseOceans Academy sessions
  • Associated administrative tasks such as liaising with parents and answering queries from parents and students
  • Creating and further developing current educational marine themed materials, resources, crafts, classes and courses

Requirements

Essential

  • Due to limitations on background checks with one of our teaching platforms, it is essential for you to reside full-time in the United Kingdom, United States, Mexico, Canada, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, or South Korea
  • Available to commit to regular weekly classes – at present the time slots for these classes are all between 4pm and 8pm UK time
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject
  • Experience in marine conservation/biology
  • Experience in an educating role
  • Ability to pass a safeguarding background check e.g. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
  • Experience in delivering virtual presentations and/or lessons
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and virtual meeting software eg Zoom, Teams
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Knowledge and active promotion of safeguarding, equality and diversity and inclusion in education
  • Self-motivated, reliable, excellent people skills

Beneficial

  • Experience of graphic design/video editing
  • Experience of social media, newsletter production, creating and featuring in videos, reels and YouTube content and blog writing
  • Proficient in Canva, EmailOctopus, Wordpress, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest

Salary and benefits

  • Permanent contract
  • £12.71 per hour
  • A working week of 5 hours - there is the potential for the hours to increase with the development of the role

Start date

Training to begin immediately, with regular hours starting in June
